Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
We’d like to give a shout out to our friend Chef Deon for making Christmas Day bright by cooking up a free dinner for around 200 folks. We’re also shouting out Sharon Brown, disability services coordinator at M.V. Community Services and a top-notch volunteer organizer. You can join them for dinner at the VFW starting at 1 pm, and volunteers will deliver meals from noon to 3 pm. They’re looking for an Island restaurant to donate dessert. Call Sharon at 302-602-6829. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Another turf filing
The court case of the MVRHS athletics field isn’t over just yet. The Oak Bluffs Planning Board voted in a split decision to appeal the Massachusetts Land Court’s ruling that sided with the high school committee. The case is now headed to the Massachusetts Appeals Court. Get the details here.
Attracting experienced farmers
Morning Glory Farm appeared before West Tisbury's planning board to present an idea for new employee housing and a production barn. The hope is to have five detached bedrooms to entice skilled workers to help out at the Edgartown farm. The planned production barn will also help service the farm's vegetable and cut flower output. South Beach devastation
With the aftermath of Monday’s storm a little more clear, Edgartown and Trustees’ officials are saying that areas of south-facing beaches have been completely eroded away. That includes what appears to be a sinkhole on Atlantic Drive near South Beach. Edgartown conservation is working with a consultant and the state to look at possible solutions for the area. Read that story here.
MEETINGS

The Oak Bluffs Select Board meets at 4:30 pm Thursday. Here is the

I’d love to see "Maestro" tonight. It chronicles the lifelong relationship between Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein (Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan). Love both the actors. Film Center. 7:30  pm. –C.B.
Tomorrow: I’ll be enjoying a day off tomorrow, and I’m heading to the World Market Holiday Shop at the Capawock because it will be four days until Christmas and I haven’t finished shopping. That’s the way I roll. 10 am to 6 pm. –C.B.

Staying in?
Santa might prefer cookies, but his reindeer would probably go for a bowl of this dish: Butternut Squash Purée with Tahini, by Chefs Austine Racine and Maura Martin for Island Grown Schools. This warm winter meal will keep the sleigh team going all night.

Skunks have lived on Martha’s Vineyard for thousands of years. Their name even comes from the word "sukôk" (su-konk) in the Wampanoag language, which translates as "ejects body fluid." In his latest addition to the This Was Then column, Chris Baer delves deep into the fascinating history of skunks on the Island. Read more here.
