Lagoinha looks for a new home

Lagoinha Martha’s Vineyard, a Vineyard Haven baptist church with predominantly Brazilian membership, started out two years ago in the living rooms of congregants. Now it is on the lookout for room for up to 150 people, twice its current capacity. Pastor Ricardo Duarte attributes much of the need to expand to interest from youth, who make up most of the congregation, as well as active and engaging sermon experiences. It has become a place for many Island immigrants to find community. Read more

Tisbury harbormaster Gary Kovack was nominated Monday to be the new harbormaster in Edgartown. This comes as current Edgartown harbormaster Charlie Blair looks to retire this month after 30 years on the job. Read more


Former prime minister to attend film festival

The Right Honorable Dame Jacinda Ardern, prime minister of New Zealand from 2017–2023, will appear at the Performing Arts Center on Friday for showing and discussion of the documentary “Prime Minister,” part of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival.
