The filer of a recent ethics complaint alleges that Tisbury town administrator Jay Grande violated state conflict of interest laws. The complaint, filed in October by town planning board administrator Amy Upton, states that Grande insisted against delaying projects by Xerxes Aghassipour, developer of the controversial 97 Spring Street. The complaint also involves Grande’s ties to local company Sourati Engineering Group, who have worked on 97 Spring Street and other major projects for Vineyard Wind. The town select board cleared Grande around a month ago to begin training for a job at Sourati, a board decision that members said would not have been made public. Read more |

Dukes County Sheriff's sergeant Craig Daley, charged with domestic assault and battery as well as rape, has been found to be dangerous and released under strict conditions. Daley’s charges come from a September incident in which he allegedly dragged a victim to a beach with a firearm and told her he was "capable of more." The alleged victim was identified as a Jamaican national. Daley has been placed on administrative leave. His attorney said in court that the criminal case lacked evidence. Read more |

Owen Park Pier is falling apart, says Tisbury harbormaster Gary Kovack, who received a $1 million grant on the town's behalf this Tuesday from the state Seaport Economic Council. The money will go a long way toward the town's project to replace the pier, estimated at just under $2 million in all. The town will lift the pier 18 inches as a safeguard against the rising sea level, and the site will be accessible to those with disabilities. Read more |

"Nature is an afterthought, a place to go for a walk, not a place to be part of," laments Liz Durkee, Climate Change Coordinator at the Martha's Vineyard Commission. "When food comes from a store instead of a farm or garden ... we forget that nature provides our sustenance." Durkee finds insight from Brad Lopes of the Aquinnah Cultural Center, as well as indigenous leaders and classic texts. Read more |

Quote of the Day |
“We as a board were OK with him being able to start spending a very limited amount of time learning the tricks of the trade, and what he would have to do at his new position, which I believe he would start after his town administrator role.”
—Tisbury select board chair John Cahill said his board cleared town administrator Jay Grande around a month ago to train at local company Sourati Engineering Group |

Waterview Land, West Tisbury
The Tower Hill land, once known as the Dancing Hills, is considered by many a sacred Island space. Standing on the ridge top, you're at one of the highest points on Martha's Vineyard. This 3.01 acre parcel looks out over the trees of Red Farm and the dramatic blue expanse of Vineyard Sound. It's easy to understand why this property is so special. There's a generous designated building envelope of 1.41 acres to allow a Buyer to build a significant house with multi level views of the water and additional structures with proper permitting. Thoughtful planning and preparation of the Tower Hill Declaration for the area creates a deeded view easement and greenbelt area to preserve the serenity, privacy and experience of being surrounded by nature while still being minutes away from West Tisbury center.
