Vineyard kids bring the beat

Godfrey Muwulya, pictured here during his solo, achieved the impressive feat last week of teaching 50 fourth graders to stomp, sing, clap and jump in unison. The product of his workshops with students from six Island schools was a dynamic performance of East African traditional and community songs, with an emphasis on cultural education. Muwulya has taught dance on-Island since 2011, and teachers say he inspires kids to work together and give it their all. Read more

Land Court for Spring Street development

Ninety-seven Spring Street, a heavily scrutinized project intended to house Vineyard Wind workers in a residential district, is now the subject of a lawsuit in Land Court. Mary Bernadette Budinger-Cormie, a next-door neighbor to the development, is suing the town, developer, and half a dozen town officials. The suit asks the court to nullify a town decision that upheld the building inspector's removal of a stop-work order at the property. The filing contains dozens of other complaints against the town. What Thanksgiving looks like

Islanders celebrated the harvest this year by raising food for those in need, showing up to Vineyard Haven’s First Baptist Church to ready over 500 bags of food for distribution. Islanders Write — in March

Islanders Write is proud to announce that its annual writers' festival will be expanding into March, bringing a weekend of free workshops to Featherstone Center for the Arts. On March 15, things will be all about the art, craft, and business of writing for authors of all levels. On March 16 things will be geared toward younger writers aged 5 to 19.
