A voyage to college
|

You may know him from his locomotive YouTube channel or the incredible custom tee shirts around town. Either way, Connor McGrath is going to college. He is the first from the Island’s Voyager program to do so. His teachers and peers say he’s an inspiration, noting that as a student on the autism spectrum, he’s accomplished quite a bit. Read more

Champions: Football wins back-to-back league titles |
The Martha’s Vineyard Regional high school football team secured the Cape and Island’s Lighthouse league championship title for the second year in a row, defeating Saint John Paul 27-6. The achievement marks the first back-to-back league championship for the Island team in 20 years. With a record of 5-3-1, the Vineyarders are preparing to face the Nantucket Whalers on November 26 at Fenway Park to defend their Island Cup title as well. Read

Candidates race for state Senate |
Three candidates are gunning to represent the Vineyard in the state Senate, and the election is less than a week away. Democratic incumbent Julian Cyr faces challengers Christopher Lauzon, a Republican from Barnstable, and Joe Van Nes, an unenrolled candidate from West Tisbury. Recently, the three met in a candidates forum hosted by the League of Women Voters in Orleans to share their thoughts on various issues. Read more

The Spanish-language film abounds with energetic songs, music, and percussive dance numbers, but isn’t quite a musical. Celebrate the 30th anniversary of our community barn raising. Visit the Ag Hall from 10 am to 1 pm to enjoy snacks and warm drinks while working to construct a barn of your own from candy, cardboard, craft and more.
At 7 pm, Saturday, it’s party-in-the-barn time! Dance the night away and help celebrate the 1994 construction of the Ag Hall’s barn, built by more than 300 Islanders. Thirty years later, community members still make all the Ag Hall’s work possible, and they can't wait to celebrate with the Island. Saturday, Nov. 2, from 7 to 10 pm at the Ag Hall in West Tisbury.
