Helping police process trauma

The Oak Bluffs Police Department, led by Chief Jonathan Searle, is seeking to partner with an on-call clinician to help officers process the cumulative trauma they experience on the job, exemplified by Officer Savannah Barnes’ response to some critical incidents on-Island. At next week's annual town meeting, the department will request $15,000 from its budget to fund officer wellness services, including a partnership with licensed clinician Amy Carter, who aims to equip officers with skills to manage their mental health. Benches at Steamship stop to be removed

Tisbury’s select board has approved a request to remove covered benches at the Steamship terminal bus stop. This comes after the Vineyard Transit Authority, which runs the buses, asked police for help amid reports of increasing drug abuse and fights at the benches. The request has raised questions about where else homeless people in the area will go. Read more

Jewish Culture Festival moving to Chilmark

After an uncertain few months for the Jewish Culture Festival, Chabad on Martha's Vineyard has locked in a new venue for August 5, 2025. The new space is a five-acre Chilmark property known for its sprawling size and waterfront view. Read more


Jet skis and sewer pumps and budget, oh my!

Oak Bluffs will be one of three towns holding annual town meeting on April 8. Voters will decide on issues from proposed jet ski bylaws to $2.5 million for a new pump station.
