Islanders bond on icy ponds |

After a week of freezing temperatures, Islanders gathered at Duarte’s Pond in West Tisbury over the weekend, continuing a longtime pond hockey tradition. The spontaneous gathering saw nearly 30 family and friends of all ages and skill levels lace 'em up and revel in the rare Island conditions. For many, the event is about community and preserving the joy and tradition of pickup hockey outdoors. Read more

In October, nurses at the Island hospital threatened a one-day strike over a labor dispute. We are reporting that the nurses recently reached a deal with the hospital on a three-year contract that they are satisfied with, and their union rep says it will lead to better retention of local nurses. She had been seeing writer after writer recommend George Eliot's "Middlemarch," and wondered if she should get a copy. But when her plans to go to the library fell apart, she experimented with ChatGPT to see if it could convince her to follow through.
