Town election season is fast underway. There are a number of candidate forums this week, including Oak Bluffs tomorrow and Edgartown on Saturday. Tomorrow is the last day to submit papers to run in Tisbury.

The boys in blue are taking home the cup in the annual first responders hockey game. But it was about much more than just winning on the ice. All in attendance agree that it’s a great tradition where the Island’s law enforcement, firefighters, EMS and hospital can bond in a moment of levity. Money was also raised for Harbor Homes. Boys & Girls Club proposes clubhouse

The Boys & Girls Club of M.V. has proposed a 21,000-square-foot clubhouse in Edgartown, which they say will accommodate more students and expanded programs. Several abutters, however, say the club has not been communicative, and that clearcutting caught them off guard. The Martha's Vineyard commission is currently reviewing the club's traffic study. Christmas tree blamed for fire

Chilmark firefighters doused a brush fire on Sunday in Quansoo Preserve; local officials believe it started when visitors brought and burned a Christmas tree. "It was cooking pretty good," said Chilmark Fire Chief Jeremy Bradshaw, who thanked Tisbury for the mutual aid. Read more
