What’s said in the barber shop …
Barber shops and salons aren’t only spots to get a haircut or a shave to look sharp — they can double as community gathering spaces, places to get unfettered advice on life, and even informal therapist offices. If you see that spinning white and red spiral pole, you know you can enter into a nonjudgmental and generally exciting environment where you’re pretty much bound to see some familiar faces. Read Ray Whitaker’s story on Island barber shops, and get a little taste of the community-oriented culture they cultivate.
