Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
We’re giving thanks for freedom of the press today, and we’re grateful for all of our readers. There will be no newsletter tomorrow or Friday so our staff can celebrate with family and friends. Here’s to a Happy Thanksgiving! If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.
NOTE: This newsletter might be cut short by your email program. View it in full here.

Today's Minute is sponsored by: MV Film Society

At home you are surrounded by life’s distractions, inclined to pick up the phone or do the dishes. Escape reality for a few hours with a screening at The Film Center.
Enjoy cinema snacks and relax in one of our reclining chairs in front of the big screen.
Simply sit and immerse yourself. You’ve earned it.

Annulled
A Massachusetts Land Court judge has annulled the Oak Bluffs Planning Board’s decision to reject a plan to build a turf field at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. The recent decision falls in line with a judge’s key ruling in September. The planning board was hoping to review the project under the judge’s findings, but that won’t happen. Read more here.
Tisbury modular units
Tisbury School has been holding classes in modular units, but that is expected to end by the next school year. The town is interested in potentially using up to two units as office spaces, but school officials are also looking into the possibility of using the remaining units for the Island’s education system. Read more here.
Stormy day
The gusts and waves today put a damper on some people’s holiday travel plans. The stormy weather conditions caused multiple cancellations for the Steamship Authority and it took out power for many Islanders. Get the details here.
MEETINGS

No meetings. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Quote of the Day
"It’s too high. It’s all wonderful, but we can only afford so much."
— School committee member Skip Manter on budget talks

Hot Topic Comment
Deborah Hammett comments on Tisbury settling a lawsuit filed by a former police candidate: "Congratulations, Danielle! I can imagine how torturing this process must have been. Coming out on top of this required so much emotional strength and determination. Good for you to stand up for yourself. Too bad they weren’t smart enough to keep you on their side."

Hot Topic Letter
Rabbi Caryn Broitman writes about the recent events in a message to the M.V. Hebrew Center that she shared with us: "We can refuse to allow anti-Semitic incidents to divide Jews from one another or from our fellow Islanders. We can refuse to internalize the hatred of some, and instead speak with kindness and civility to all who act with good faith. We can acknowledge and feel a sense of gratitude for the large numbers of people working to make democracy, equality, and safety a reality for all."
Today: I’m up for a little Restorative Reset with yin postures that are close to the ground. In fact, I may just lie on the ground and wait for someone to help me up. Sounds like a good way to meet people. Edgartown library. No registration required. 5:30 pm. –Connie Berry

Take in a movie the night before Thanksgiving when the Film Center screens "The Holdovers." Paul Giamatti is a curmudgeon in this one, just the way I like him. He gets to babysit the students who have no place to go during Christmas break at a prep school. 7:30 pm. –C.B.

Tomorrow: The Oak Bluffs Turkey Trot to benefit the Oak Bluffs School class of 2024 starts at Chowder Co. at 8:30 am. $20 to register and it’s only a 5K. Once you do this, you are allowed to eat all the pumpkin pie you’d like. 8:30 am. –C.B.
