Island first responders gathered at the Oak Bluffs fire department today to pause and reflect on the atrocities of September 11, 2001. The memorial included ringing fire engine bells and a prayer. We heard from the O.B. fire chief and have a video of the ceremony. Read more

Lambert just shy of Paralympic medal
Noelle Lambert, the New Hampshirite who lost her leg on the Vineyard in a 2016 moped crash, nearly medaled in Paris last week. A jump that would have won her silver was negated, as her prosthetic leg barely crossed the foul line upon takeoff. She is now looking forward to the World Para Athletics Championships in May. Under her wing |
When Carole Hopson turned 50, she decided to act on her lifelong dream of becoming a pilot. Four years later, she was flying for United Airlines. Her latest achievement is the novel “A Pair of Wings,” inspired by aviation pioneer Bessie Coleman. Now Captain Hopson, whose Jet Black Foundation works to draw other Black women to the field, hopes book sales can help fuel her next dream — sending 100 Black women to flight school. Read more
