Public schools to present equity audit

Superintendent Richie Smith is set to present a highly anticipated assessment of public school policies and practices on Thursday evening. The audit is the product of surveys of school staff and parents, as well as student focus groups, and its goal is to inform fairer school policies going forward for students and staff of all backgrounds. The district hopes to have a website ready by meeting time for the public to follow along. Read more

Getting our own temperature

Steamship notifications scrutinized

HAPPENINGS

Today

The Oak Bluffs Library inviting you to bring your own dinner to their showing of a scary movie. But the really scary part is that they're not allowed to advertise movie titles online, so you'd have to call them at (508) 693-9433 to find out what it'll be. It could be fun to show up without knowing the movie, though. Doors open at 5:50 pm at 56R School Street. Click here

Tomorrow

Film nights are also back at the Edgartown Library, focusing on award-winning international works. Tomorrow's is "Amerikatsi," about a man's return to his native Armenia in 1948 after escaping genocide. He finds his country overtaken by Soviets and is unjustly arrested. He then must learn about changes in his homeland from glimpses through his prison cell. This event is free at 6 pm to 8 pm, 26 Edgartown–West Tisbury road in Edgartown. Click here

“Right now, it’s embarrassing. Again, that we’re not making improvements from two years ago, when we addressed this face-to-face in a private meeting.”
