A fraction of the workforce
Workers from Dukes County make up only a small fraction of total workers as Vineyard Wind moves forward to complete construction. While the construction phase saw only a few Islanders hired, Vineyarders may be able to look toward the operations and maintenance phase for employment. Read more here.
Second storm pounds Vineyard
Not long after the Vineyard experienced heavy rain and winds from an earlier winter storm, the Island was hit again. Traffic was slowed, beaches were damaged, there was flooding on various parts of the Island, and the ferries experienced cancellations. Get the details here.

Edgartown parties
A proposed bylaw aimed at limiting the frequency and size of social gatherings in Edgartown’s residential zones was met with support from town residents Monday during a public hearing with the select board. After homeowners in a neighborhood off of West Tisbury Road lodged multiple complaints against a property owner who they say hosted commercial events last summer, Edgartown officials are looking to tighten up the regulations on large, noisy parties. Here’s that story.

Quote of the Day
"If you’re going to teach kids about good eating, healthy food, and where food comes from, we wanted to make sure everybody on the Island had access to that food."
— Island Grown Initiative director Rebecca Haag on creating the
next generation of food advocates

Hot Topic Comment
"I went to two dinners hosted by one of the farms this past summer. It was a fantastic community building event in which one could meet one’s neighbors and farmers. This really ought to be not only legal but encouraged."
— Ned Block comments on a proposal by local farmers to clarify Chilmark’s zoning bylaws

Hot Topic Letter
"News first broke last September that two highly conservative law professors argued that Donald J. Trump was no longer eligible to run for president because he was directly involved in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, he was no longer qualified as a presidential candidate."
— Columnist Jack Fruchtman writes about the ballot challenges for Donald Trump

Today: One of the things I love about this place is that all those sort of old-timey skills find a home here. Hence therefore, give the Quilting Circle at the West Tisbury library a try. They’re always open to new people. 6 pm. –Connie Berry

"Ferrari" has every indication of a good film: great stars in Driver, Cruz, and Woodley and a great director in Michael Mann. Wow, I wrote that like I have some kind of Hollywood insider knowledge. Anyway, it’s on my to-see list. M.V. Film Center. 7:30 pm. –C.B.
Tomorrow: Many moms and dads find the Family Center on Greenwood Ave. in VH a really wonderful asset. They have Open Hours where you can also check out the swap shop and food pantry. 2 to 3:30 pm. –C.B.

One tree at a time
Islander Claudia Macedo is helping to restore the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. She lives six months of the year on the Island and works in the rehab and wellness department at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, and spends the rest of the year in her native Brazil. Macedo has even received donations from coworkers and Island friends that have helped build a section of the forest containing 650 trees. She’s a real example of making a difference one tree at a time. Read her story here.
