A call for pause

The state proposal to take down white pine plantations has faced lots of pushback from Islanders, even more so in recent weeks with a petition and video circulating in the community. Some have called for more time to publicly comment, and to put the idea on hold while feedback is heard. Meanwhile, a highly anticipated plan from the state is expected next week, which will include a public presentation. Read more

Public schools lose equity audit partner

Vineyard public schools are moving forward with their project to promote equity and fairness, despite recently losing a key partner. The federal Department of Education has cut off funding to the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium, and instructed the nonprofit to stop federally funded work. Vineyard superintendent Richie Smith says his district will carry on with their equity audit, though adjustments may be needed. Read more


If you renovate it...

The M.V. Sharks secured the support from the high school committee on Monday night for a two-part renovation of the Island's high school baseball field, estimated to cost $550,000. The project would address safety concerns and improve the condition of the field, built in 2006. Read more
