Friends and family of 17-year old West Tisbury resident Waylon Madison Sauer honored his memory with a paddle-out at Squibnocket Beach on Saturday. Hundreds formed a circle in the water 100 yards from shore, shared a moment of silence, and offered flowers and evergreen clippings to the sea in a fulfilling tribute. Waylon’s lifelong friend Kert Kleeman shared a speech, and Waylon's mother was thankful for the grand show of community support. Read more

In response to a demand for young talent in the Vineyard's workforce, ACE MV and the high school hosted the inaugural Island Career Pathways Night to connect local youth with opportunities in trades, healthcare, and adult education programs. The night featured panel discussions and resources geared toward bridging the gap between students and the needs of local industry. And, of course, there was pizza. Read more

Steamship nixes standby for Islander line
|
The Steamship Authority is undergoing a 90-day trial period that will do away with the standby line while construction is ongoing in Woods Hole and Vineyard Haven. There are concerns about safety with fewer spaces available during construction. The trial period will include an expanded “Blue Line” for Vineyarders waiting on standby. Read more
