'Catastrophe’ for Island animals
Animal Health Care Associates (AHCA), one of the Island's few remaining veterinary facilities, is in danger of losing its lease at the Martha's Vineyard Airport. Other vets, animal welfare figures, and pet owners say animal health care on-Island is already significantly strained, and that losing another practice would be a major blow. AHCA is applying to extend its lease, and the airport will decide in April who gets the lease. Read more here.
Times launches ‘O Tempo’
The MV Times announced a new translation service on our website that allows readers to view articles in a variety of languages, including Portuguese. Our publisher says it’s a way of reaching the Island’s large Brazilian population, allowing them to get the news they need. As one Islander put it, "News is everything." Having knowledge about the community allows people to speak up for their needs, and translations are essential to that. Read that story here.

Esta semana estamos iniciando um serviço de tradução para o português para nossos leitores da crescente comunidade brasileira, tornando o Martha's Vineyard Times o primeiro jornal da ilha a servir a comunidade desta forma.

Staying in?
Straight from the West Tisbury kitchen of Tina Miller, co-editor of Edible Vineyard, comes the recipe for Fish en Papillote. It may sound fancy, but it's quite straightforward to prepare. Green vegetables, fresh herbs, baby potatoes, and other delicious ingredients are baked with seafood in a parchment pouch, and then voilà, you have a French dish ready to serve.

If your family has a recipe to share with the community, send it to us at recipes@mvtimes.com, and include a photo of the dish and a brief backstory if you have one.

Brazucada!
Carnival happens at the same time people celebrate Mardi Gras in the U.S. In Brazil, people take over the streets in the heat of summer to dance and sing. But here on the Island in the bleak midwinter, the party will happen indoors. Get the lowdown on the local party here.
