Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
We can trace the first real hip-hop commercial success back to Jan. 5, 1980 when the song "Rapper’s Delight" reached the Billboard top 40, thanks to the Sugarhill Gang. It’s stuck in your head now, isn’t it? Go ahead and dance. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Kelley House is now ‘Faraway’
Edgartown’s historic Kelley House hotel is now Faraway MV. The hotel’s massive reconstruction and renovation project, which involves quite a few big changes, is set to be complete just in time for Memorial Day. But don’t worry, you’ll still be able to grab a pint at the Newes. Reporter Abigail Rosen asked Faraway developers what Islanders and visitors should expect. Read their answers here.
Meals for Harbor Homes
There’s a new initiative that just recently launched as part of the Edgartown Federated Church’s mission to support the Vineyard homeless population. The latest program, called Joyful Eatings, will involve Island chefs providing meals to the Harbor Homes overnight shelter on select Sunday afternoons through the end of March. The first round of meals will be made by Lexie Roth and Eva Faber of the Goldie’s Rotisserie food truck. Read more about Joyful Eatings here.

West Tisbury turns to Facebook
If you're representing the town, you should be courteous online as well. West Tisbury is considering a new Facebook policy as it makes plans to make a town page. Town administrator Jennifer Rand hopes this will be another method of reaching out to West Tisbury residents. However, caution is heeded as online discourse can become messy (Islanders Talk, for example). The Facebook policy will be reviewed by other town officials before moving forward. Reporter Eunki Seonwoo has the update.
MEETINGS
No meetings Friday. Let’s all wind down a bit.

Hot Topic Letter
Leigh Smith wrote about how our story on the Patriot Party Boat jumping in to save the day when the ferries weren’t running brought back happy memories: "I loved reading ‘Tietje to the rescue!’ (Dec. 28) in The Times. His dad and I, as teenagers in New Jersey, once won a ‘lucky number’ dance."

The end of an era
As The Times looks back on the past six years, it’s safe to say that a lot has happened (good and bad), and a lot has changed. But one central element has unarguably remained a compass for the publication, always keeping us on a proper heading — George Brennan. After a long and illustrious career in journalism, Brennan is turning in his editor badge and starting a new chapter in his life. We’re all happy for him, but we sure will miss his leadership, his expertise, his unfailing good humor, and his passion for all things news. Read Brennan’s moving farewell here.
We sent you The Minute because you gave us your email address at an Islanders Write or Islanders Read the Classics event (or at the Ag Fair), or you responded to an ad for The Minute and signed up on our website.
