A third try for Harbor Homes

It was a year ago this week that Harbor Homes — the operators of the only homeless shelter on the Island — withdrew plans for permanent location in Oak Bluffs. We are learning that they have recently withdrawn a second attempt over wastewater issues. Now the pressure is heightened as the agreement for a temporary location is expiring soon. Read more


Tensions high before Spring Street decision

The M.V. Commission is deciding on Thursday whether to review 97 Spring Street, a highly controversial project intended to house as many as nine Vineyard Wind workers. This is after the commission rejected Tisbury officials' first attempt to have them review the property. Now, days before the decision, the project's developer is calling out public officials for what he says is unfair treatment and dysfunction in town. Read more


O.B. appoints new fire chief

Oak Bluffs has chosen who it wants as the next fire chief: Stephen Foster, who has been serving as the deputy fire chief. The decision was met by enthusiastic applause and cheer from the town’s firefighters and EMTs. Still, it’s not a done deal just yet. Contract negotiations are next. Read more
