The internal investigation of a Tisbury chief

The Times has obtained an internal investigation conducted by a law firm into allegations against Tisbury Fire Chief Greg Leland. The report includes several interviews with fire and EMS staff, and revolves around poor morale at the station stemming from an alleged relationship — “the worst kept secret” — that Leland had with a subordinate within the department. Chance to weigh in on Steamship woes

The Steamship Authority will host a public forum on Nov. 19 at the Martha's Vineyard Film Center, allowing Islanders to voice concerns over ferry cancellations and the reservation system. The event, led by the Dukes County Commissioner chair Christine Todd along with Steamship Authority officials, aims to identify areas to improve. Attendees can submit questions in advance. Read more

Honoring Vineyard veterans

This weekend, the Vineyard honors its veterans. Saturday begins with the Bill Stafursky Memorial road race at 9 am in Edgartown, followed by a cookout at the American Legion Hall from 12 to 3 p.m On Monday, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at 9:30 am in Edgartown, and a parade and ceremony will be held at 10:30 am in Oak Bluffs. The Steamship Authority will offer free rides to veterans on Veterans Day. Read more

SouthCoast Wind passes milestone

Another large offshore wind development just passed a major milestone with the federal government. SouthCoast Wind, a 147-turbine project planned to be built around 26 nautical miles south of the Island, received its environmental review. Read more

The Martha’s Vineyard Children's Film Festival is taking place Friday night at the Grange Hall on 1067 State Rd, West Tisbury. The event kicks off at 6pm, and an impressive lineup of films and exciting activities will leave your kids buzzing with joy. Take a walk along the Magic Sculpture Trail at Island Folk Pottery on Saturday at 16 Marions Way in Chilmark. The all day event starts at 9 am and ends at 6, and is a great destination for all ages who “want to suspend reality for a moment.” The quarter-mile trail meanders through a magical landscape featuring enchanting art pieces by artists Bill O’Callaghan and Heather Goff. The Second Sunday Jazz Concert gets underway  at the West Tisbury Library on Sunday at 2:30 pm. The concert will feature Eric T. Johnson with special guest bassist Ehud Etten. This event is free and open to all. Read more
