Healey visits Island
During the first part of her Island tour, Governor Maura Healey stopped at Health Imperatives in Tisbury — where she rallied for abortion access across the country. "It’s exactly the kind of place so many communities need," she said. Imperatives is expected to begin offering abortion access within "days." Check out a video of today's press conference and read more about Healey's visit here.
‘A unified effort’
The renovation and upgrade of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School is on a roll. After sweeping votes at town meeting to fund a feasibility study, a key state entity welcomed the project into its program. That could mean the state will reimburse towns nearly 40 percent of the costs. School officials say we’re still not close to the end of the MSBA process, but it’s a significant step. Read more here.
The Dershowitz show
There was a lot of drama and expectation when it was announced that Alan Dershowitz would be returning to the Chilmark library. We have a detailed look at what he talked about. Spoiler: it wasn’t all of the drama promised, but it was an interesting talk nonetheless, about life, death, and a large endorsement for organ donations. Read more here.
MEETINGS
We’re not seeing any meetings tomorrow. Maybe you can get an early start to your weekend!

Home Business Opportunity, Vineyard Haven Sponsored

Excellent occasion to increase your business exposure or start a new one in a desirable active commercial location. This property offers a lot of flexibility for a buyer to expand the existing building or reorganize to suit a different business. A new owner could build their own residence onsite as well as run a business. A super opportunity for employee housing as well. The property is insulated and ready to use year-round with a new HVAC system in 2023. Plenty of parking for residential and business use. Septic would allow for 5 bedrooms. A new owner could install an enhanced system for greater bedroom count. Don’t miss this rare offering for a commercial location in Tisbury.
Quote of the Day
"I cannot think of a voice that would not be relevant to hear from as we are considering changes to the town bylaws. There is not a voice I do not want to hear from."
— Oak Bluffs planning board chair Ewell Hopkins on potential zoning bylaw changes.

Hot Topic Comment
"Polly Hill is such a wonderful asset to the Island, I am most grateful and inspired at their dedication and achievements."
— Katy Upson comments on Polly Hill Arboretum adding two new houses for staff.

Hot Topic Letter
Erin G. Cummings writes to us about the Comprehensive Cancer Survivorship Act: "The passage of a bill like this is crucial in ensuring that long-term survivors like me receive medical care well beyond the day that they are pronounced ‘cured.’ Many of us will struggle for years with life-threatening illnesses that are a direct result of our earlier cancer treatments. Without the continued surveillance of our clinicians, we will most certainly suffer needlessly."
Today: Big apologies to everyone who turned up at the Edgartown library to go on a bird watch/walk the other day. It was an event requiring registration, and someone (you might guess who) neglected to give you that info. Lesson learned. You can show up virtually tonight though, for Chef Look Cooks Waffle and Sauerkraut Reuben Burgers. I would totally eat that. 5 pm. –Connie Berry

I’m recommending this one based entirely on the name of the event: Book Talk with Garri Saganenko: "180 Pounds of Poet Meat." This has to be good. West Tisbury library. 5 pm. –C.B.

Tomorrow: I’m a sucker for the Vineyard Antique and Flea Market. They’ve got art, jewelry, maps, vintage clothing, rugs, and a whole lot more at the Grange Hall. 9 am to 3 pm. –C.B.
