Families, schools brace for deportations

Many Island immigrants are living in fear of federal agents, unsure of their futures amid President Trump’s threats of mass deportation. Some parents say that they would stop bringing their children to school if even one ICE agent visited the campus. Meanwhile, school officials are preparing to respond in the event of warrants from immigration enforcement. Read more

Federal funding freeze rescinded

The Trump Administration's federal funding freeze has been rescinded after just one day. While the threat to federal grants and loans is now over, it caused a whirl of confusion and tension among institutions on-Island and across the country. Read more


Detox facility moves farther away

A detox facility in Falmouth that has provided care to hundreds of Vineyarders is moving off of Cape Cod, adding an extra layer of difficulty for those struggling with substance use disorders. Gosnold Behavioral Health is moving to Wareham, and local health professionals say they're worried about an essential service becoming harder to reach. Staff at Gosnold do say that they're looking into transportation solutions for those in need. Read more

Boys' swim team stays undefeated

It was close, but the high school boys' swim team beat rival Nantucket 85-81 on Saturday to keep their perfect record alive. A couple swimmers also qualified for the state competition. And, the girls' team posted personal bests in a loss against the Island's rivals. Read more

Eagles on ice

Mara Flanagan snapped a photo of this pair of majestic bald eagles out on Lagoon Pond. One of them appeared to have gotten lucky and caught a duck. If you go looking for these two, be sure to admire them from a distance and leave them be.
