Nurses authorize hospital strike

News broke today that roughly 100 nurses at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital plan to initiate a one-day strike if they do not receive fair compensation from Mass General Bringham. The union says that the parent company does not invest adequately in permanent nurses, instead relying on traveling nurses. The hospital, meanwhile, says they have offered “considerable” wage increases.  Read more

A fifth ICE arrest

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has announced a fifth ICE arrest on the Island in recent months. The individual, whose name has not been released, allegedly entered the country illegally and engaged in crimes related to drug distribution on-Island.

He was arraigned at the Edgartown District court in August and ICE picked him up in September. Read more

But it was quickly communicated to me that food wasn’t to be my ministry, even though, from an early age, I knew it was.” Ting says about pursuing food as a career growing up: “It wasn’t an option, because my mother said, if I am sacrificing to raise you, then with your gifts, you have to do so much more." No flu for you

The Martha’s Vineyard Hospital is offering the flu vaccine to existing MVH patients for the upcoming fall/winter 2024 – 25 season. This will not be a walk-in clinic. Flu vaccine clinics will start the week of Sept. 16. New appointments will be available for scheduling through Patient Gateway each Monday morning.
