The 43rd annual Christmas in Edgartown started today. Festivities include an arts-and-crafts festival, the lighting of the Edgartown lighthouse, and the ultimate Christmas parade. Read more here. Also in the holiday spirit, some 350 Island children have presents this year thanks to the Red Stocking Fund, which started in the 1930s when friends came to gether to knit red stockings. A successful rescue at Sunset Lake

It took some quick action and ingenuity from Oak Bluffs Police and Fire to save three victims last night after a car rolled into Sunset Lake off of Lake Avenue. One victim was said to be pinned to the lake bottom before first responders pried the vehicle up and freed her. Police tell us that she is in stable condition. Read more

Finalists revealed in town administrator search

Tisbury received 22 applicants to replace town administrator Jay Grande, who is retiring at the end of this year. A town search committee has now brought that number down to two. They are Sonia Alves-Viveiro, city manager of Edison, New Jersey, and Joseph LaCivita, general manager of Watervliet, New York. Some select board members, however, wanted to see more local candidates, and expressed interest in expanding the search. Read more

Vineyard native May Oskan gives her first on-Island performance in over a decade, joined by her mother Shelly Jones, a local songwriter and guitar teacher. Join baritone David Behnke and pianist David Rhoderick for a performance of Robert Schumann's monumental opus "Dichterliebe." The title means "A Poet's Love." This piece is set to sixteem poems by Heinrich Heine that reflect on a young man's unrequieted love and longing. The latter portion of the program will be devoted to seasonal music. It's 4 pm to 5:30 pm at the Edgartown Library, 26 Edgartown West Tisbury Road, Edgartown. Read more
