With 2023 MCAS scores showing a decrease from student averages in 2019, M.V. Regional High School is considered a school in need of intervention, according to Superintendent Richard Smith at last night’s All Island School Committee meeting.  With the MCAS being a gateway exam to graduation, Superintendent Smith said he intends to prioritize supporting students in passing the test. How loud is the airport?
Martha’s Vineyard Airport has been conducting a study to map out noise impacts, and you’ll soon be able to comment on it. The work was done through a Federal Aviation Administration program, and a study team measured noise levels during the Island’s peak season. Read more here.

Stop & Shop sued
A Tisbury woman is suing the supermarket after what she described as poorly maintained grounds at the Edgartown location caused her to fall and sustain injuries. Through her attorney, she argues that Stop & Shop is in violation of both state and town laws, and has failed to keep up with parking lot maintenance. Here’s that story.

This weekend: Learn Clamming with the Oak Bluffs shellfish constable. The Oak Bluffs library helps us with this one at the first bridge parking lot on Sengekontacket Pond. 8:30 am. Tom Dresser leads a "fun" Historic Cemetery Walking Tour beginning at the Oak Bluffs library. 9 am. Here comes fall at the Farm Institute with its Pumpkin Picking and Wagon Rides, plus all the animals. 9:30 am and beyond. Adult Community Dance Class at the West Tisbury library. Jesse Keller Jason, a real dancer, leads this all-levels class. 10:30 am. Featherstone allows us another look at summer with its "Summer Celebrations and Reflections." 12 to 4 pm. (The exhibit has just been extended to Oct. 29.) Join the West Tisbury library as they say good-bye to children’s librarian Mikaela Lawson. 12 to 2 pm. The Red House welcomes social worker, trauma therapist, and author Liz Ianelli as she discusses her book "I See You Survivor." 1 pm. Come try on costumes, participate in theater warm-ups, and collaborate with Phyllis Vecchia, who leads Creative Drama at the Chilmark library. Tons of fun for kids 4 to 8. Read the directions because they’d like you to register. 1 pm. It’s Fossil Day on Saturday. Enjoy a free public science event for all ages at Union Chapel. This day never disappoints. 2 to 4 pm. The Chilmark library hosts Chilmark’s Deaf and Signing Community: A New History at 3 pm. The Manhattan Short Film Festival is at the Film Center Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 4 pm. I’ve only been once and it was way better than I expected. And you get to vote. –C.B.

On Sunday, it’s the 35th Anniversary of M.V. Big Golf Fore Kids at Mink Meadows Golf Club. It benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Chef Deon’s Kitchen provides the eats. 7:30 am to 2 pm. All Levels Casual Tennis happens at the courts on Church Street in Vineyard Haven. I’m interested in anything that says "all levels." 10 am. Meet at Aquinnah Circle for the 10th annual Run for the Light. Your registration fee supports restoration and maintenance of the Gay Head Lighthouse. 10:30 am. The Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council awards grants for projects that benefit Island residents through the arts and humanities. Come to this open clinic and discover how to write a successful grant, ask questions, and learn about the application process. West Tisbury library. This might help with the stand-up comedy act I’m trying to get off the ground. 1 pm. Sunday at Sea Music and Storytelling with musicians Mark Alan Lovewell and Molly Conole. Love this. Federated Church. 8 pm. How come we have so many choices and it’s not August? This makes it tough to be a couch potato. –C.B.
