Officials raising concerns against offshore wind

Public sentiment toward offshore wind developments is changing on-Island. Martha's Vineyard Commission Executive Director Adam Turner is the latest to raise concern, asking Governor Maura Healey to help the Island bear the burden of the projects' environmental and visual impacts. This comes as Tisbury's outgoing top official is under scrutiny for his ties to a company that has constructed properties for Vineyard Wind, and as leaders of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) joined a lawsuit last week against Revolution Wind. Read more, and read our recent editorial here.

COMMUNITY

Learning opportunities

Quote of the Day

“It is our view [that] the residents of the [Vineyard] have shouldered a tremendous burden for the rest of the state and region. The residents realize that they must do their share, but it is a fact that most of the turbines servicing our state can be viewed from our shores. As an Island of great visual beauty, this has impacted us.”

—Martha's Vineyard Commission Executive Director Adam Turner in a letter to Governor Maura Healey
