Sources with firsthand knowledge say that between 12 and 20 staffers were laid off from Martha's Vineyard Hospital over the past few months, many of them Islanders. Those impacted mostly worked in the finance department, and none appear to have held patient-facing jobs. One employee stated that many of those laid off had families, and were "blindsided" by the change. This comes as Mass General Brigham has announced two rounds of layoffs across their hospital system in order to improve their long-term financial stability and eliminate redundancy. Read more |
State to reopen public comments for forest-cutting plan |
A state plan to cut white pine plantations in 175 acres of the state forest is going back out to the public. We reported last week that the original comment period, which closed in 2022, didn’t have a single statement from an Island resident. Today, the state agency overseeing the project announced where and how concerned residents can make their voices heard. Read more |

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School girls ice hockey team has been awarded the James F. Mulloy Ice Hockey Team Sportsmanship Award. The honor, to be presented by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) on Sunday March 16 at TD Garden, recognizes the team's dedication to fair play and teamwork both on and off the ice. Navigator Homes eyes 2025 finish |
Navigator Homes, the planned 70-bed replacement for Windermere Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, is eyeing a December opening as construction continues. As finer details at the site come into view, contractors say the first building of five should be done in October. As early as this summer, the site could start housing workers for the Martha's Vineyard Hospital, fulfilling its other purpose. Read more
