The high school has made “moderate progress toward targets,” and no longer needs the assistance the state recommended after students’ scores last year. Principal Dingledy thanked staff and looked forward to future progress. The other public schools also require no assistance or intervention, though the state said the Charter School does need support. Read more

State and local police are investigating a string of destructive vandalism and graffiti incidents in Aquinnah. Select board member Tom Murphy told police a U.S. flag on his property was torn down, but his home property was also damaged this spring around the time of his reelection. Other homes and public and private properties were damaged and marked with potentially threatening and derogatory messages. Read more

Hundreds of cyclists arrived on the Island today. You probably saw them. Turns out they're on a marathon across New England as part of an effort to raise awareness and money for the trees, and they've brought in over $250,000 of a $410,000 goal. Read more

The Mobile Market from Island Grown Initiative travels across the Vineyard with reduced-price, fresh, and locally grown produce and eggs, focusing on feeding people in food assistance programs. The Red House Peer Recovery Support Center is hosting a speaker to discuss a pathway to recovery from substance use disorder. The topic today is “Recovery Dharma,” referring to the behaviors that create order and help to guide one’s life. The Red House is located on 12 Beach Road in Oak Bluffs, and tomorrow’s event starts at 12:30 pm. Read more.
The event also follows the Recovery Cafe, held at the Read House tomorrow at noon. Enjoy a free lunch cooked with care by members and volunteers, and connect with others in recovery. The Red House also encourages attendees to help with preparation, cooking, and/or cleaning. Read more
