PFAS found at the Oak Bluffs School fieldsA recent report by environmental consulting firm Weston & Sampson Engineering, Inc., shows that samples taken from the soil at the Oak Bluffs School indicate the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The anthropogenic chemicals were also found at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, but soil samples from the elementary school show ‘consistently higher PFAS concentrations’ than MVRHS. Windemere outbreak reaches nearly every resident
Twenty-six out of the 30 Windemere residents tested positive for the new COVID variant XBB.1.5, also known as "Kraken," in the outbreak that occurred in late January. Fortunately, most of the residents and staff members who tested positive for the variant have recovered. Martha’s Vineyard Hospital maintains measures to prevent further spread of COVID, but the variant is likely circulating on the Island. Reporter Eunki Seonwoo has this update.

Aquinnah looking to wind industry for lighthouse repair aidAquinnah is negotiating with offshore wind projects, namely Southfork Wind and Revolution Wind, to help fund repairs to the historic Gay Head Lighthouse. Although details have not been solidified, this could bring a
steady revenue stream for the lighthouse upkeep. Reporter Eunki Seonwoo has this story.

A well-earned retirement
Patricia Bergeron has worked at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for nearly five decades as the unit coordinator for the emergency department — now she is enjoying her deserved retirement and looking back on all her memories and hard work. Of course the job was stressful and very demanding, but Bergeron is all about community, and the fact that she was helping her friends, neighbors, and fellow Islanders made it all worthwhile.
