Prepare for playoff hockey

The boys' and girls' varsity hockey teams are in the postseason, and they'll play their first round at home this Thursday. The girls bring an 11-8-1 record to a home match against Pembroke High School at 3 pm. The boys are battle tested with a split 9-9-2 record, and they'll face Northeast Metropolitan Reg. Voc. Steamship changes electric vehicle policy

The Steamship Authority will now allow damaged electric vehicles to board its ferries if the owner has the right documentation. This follows our reporting that the earlier policy, which barred damaged vehicles from boarding, made some people hesitant to transition away from combustion-engine cars. But local mechanics say the recent amendment doesn’t go far enough. Read more

O.B. health board won't enforce bottle ban

Oak Bluffs’ health board says the town’s bottle ban can't be enforced as is, due to a dearth of town health staff. This comes as local businesses are ignoring the ban on smaller disposable bottles. Before adopting the ban as a regulation, health board members want an Island-wide enforcement plan. Some also want more public bottle refill stations. Read more


The ultimate green decision

A green burial is the last eco-friendly decision someone can make. Islanders took on the tough topic at an information session this weekend in Oak Bluffs, one of three towns to allow the process. Green burials don't use embalming fluid, and only use biodegradable materials. Read more
