Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
A few notable birthdays today: Benjamin Franklin, Al Capone, Betty White, Steve Harvey, Jim Carrey, and Michelle Obama. What an interesting lineup. We say today is a great day for all of us to eat cake for dessert. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Today's Minute is sponsored by: M.V. Film Society

At home you are surrounded by life’s distractions, inclined to pick up the phone or do the dishes. Escape reality for a few hours with a screening at The Film Center.
Enjoy cinema snacks and relax in one of our reclining chairs in front of the big screen.
Simply sit and immerse yourself. You’ve earned it.

Body cams consideration
The Edgartown Police Department is looking for funding to give officers body cameras. This follows a statewide and national effort to bring more transparency to policing. But it’s also seen as a way of highlighting the work of local officers. Edgartown would be the first on the Island, but not the first to explore the idea. Read that story here.
Going out to bid
It took a while, but the Peaked Hill Pastures affordable housing project got a request for proposal approved. However, there were still some questions that remained for people who were keeping an eye on the project development, like the committee opting not to pursue Chapter 40B. Get the details here.

Storm emergency funding
Edgartown officials declared an emergency for South Beach during a meeting today, which could put them in line to receive federal funding. The beach has been nailed by the last three storms, with heavy Southeast winds. Dunes on the beach have been significantly damaged, and a portion of Atlantic Drive collapsed. Read that story here.

Staying in?
Potatoes are the IGI Harvest of the Month, and as every hobbit in Middle-earth knows, these root vegetables are a versatile staple. For a creamy dish using taters, try the recipe by Maura Martin and Austin Racine for Brandade, which is delicious served with fresh bread. Bilbo Baggins would approve.
