Our report from Islanders Write

Writers from across the Island and all ages gathered over the weekend at Featherstone in Oak Bluffs to take part in our first mid-winter Islanders Write program. There were numerous workshops, talks and moments for writing. Solidarity with Ukraine

Over the weekend, Islanders gathered at Five Corners in Tisbury in support of Ukraine. This comes as uncertainty swirls around the negotiations for a potential ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. Islanders lent their voices to support Ukraine, chastizing the Trump Administration’s handling of the talks with the countries. Read more

Some support for Sunday hunting

Earlier this month, we announced a survey here asking whether Islanders supported the idea of hunting on Sundays on private property. The answers are back. About 300 of you responded and just over 50 percent say they support the idea. This with Islanders struggling with Lyme, alpha-gal and other tick-born illnesses. Read more


Why not paddle Five Corners?

Heavy rain hit Martha’s Vineyard on Monday, predictably turning Five Corners into a watery spectacle. While cars struggled through the submerged streets, 25-year-old resident Ben deBettencourt embraced the chaos, kayaking down Beach Road for fun and some social media content. Inspired by a friend's challenge, deBettencourt borrowed the kayak, paddled the freezing waters, and even endured a large splash from his buddy's passing vehicle.  Read more

High Schoolers build a tiny house

Some houses on the Vineyard are small, but are they tiny? MVRHS senior Emily MacMillan is working to build such a house in a workshop with a cohort of friends, classmates, teachers, and support from the Island community. The goal is to have the house built by the end of the year, and the students are gaining a memorable experience through this process. Read more

Rick Couse, Natural Neighbors program manager at BioDiversityWorks, will talk about Natural Neighbor’s Program. Natural Neighbors is a BiodiversityWorks program for individuals, neighborhood associations, and businesses. Staff will visit your property to learn about your interests in nature and to identify current and potential contributions to support the Island’s biodiversity. Program runs 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at M.V. Garden Club at Wakeman Center. Read more
