Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
We hope everyone stayed dry during today’s downpour and thunderstorms. Worth noting, the National Weather Service says to watch out for strong rip currents today. Maybe a good day to stay inside and watch your plants appreciate the rain. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Executive visit
Details are still a little fuzzy, but Vice President Kamala Harris will be on the Vineyard this upcoming weekend for a benefit for President Biden’s reelection. The hosts of the event are Carol & C. Bernard Fulp, Robin Leeds, and Wendell Pierce, according to an invitation. Tickets for the fundraiser range from $50 for a guest spot to $10,000 to serve as a co-chair. Read more here.
MVC to talk turf
The Martha’s Vineyard Commission will be taking up a request from regional high school representatives to extend its approval of the school’s proposed – and controversial – athletic field at their upcoming meeting Thursday. A subcommittee of the regional planning agency reviewed the request Monday, and have recommended the full commission extend a two-year-old approval. Here’s that story.

Jet blues
JetBlue passengers who were stranded on Martha’s Vineyard are demanding better compensation from JetBlue over the airline’s handling of their situation. Specifically, those asking for compensation are fliers who were headed to New York City and they were offered $200 in flight credits. Read more here.

Quote of the Day
"I want our kids to be prepared for the future that’s coming up very shortly. We’re going to have a permanent presence in low Earth orbit, and then a permanent presence on the moon."
— Former NASA astronaut Dr. Bernard Harris Jr. on the "From STEM to the Stars" event

Hot Topic Comment
"As someone who drives a gas-powered vehicle but plans to replace it eventually (hopefully sooner rather than later) with an EV, I support the move to charge for fuel, electric and other wise, especially from town owned chargers. Otherwise, I’d encourage you to consider offering a gas subsidy to all of your town taxpayers who can’t afford a new EV."
— Ebba Rene Hierta comments on West Tisbury considering getting rid of free electric vehicle charging stations.

Hot Topic Letter
Erin G. Cummings writes to us about the recent All Island Art Show: "Despite the ‘iffy’ weather, the day was a complete success. It was wonderful to see the work of so many talented artists. This annual event never fails to instill both inspiration and camaraderie among participants and visitors. There’s nothing better than to see the smile on the face of an artist who has just earned their first ribbon. Many thanks to all who were involved."
Today: Where else can you spend a Tuesday night listening to a discussion between former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and author and Grammy-nominated artist KEM? Here. That’s where. Tabernacle. Free. 5:30 pm. –Connie Berry

YogiJay leads Sunflower Salutations at the Farm Institute. A walking meditation through the sunflower meadow, followed by vinyasa yoga. Sounds like a plan to me. 6 pm. –C.B.
Tomorrow: Ever wanted to look inside the gingerbread cottages at the Campground? Me too. Tomorrow is our chance with the 23rd Annual Gingerbread Cottage Tour. It runs from 10 am to 3 pm, so make a plan. –C.B.
