The shark is coming

Edgartown Cinemas owner Bill Hanney is also a producer on the play The Shark Is Broken, which opened on Broadway in 2023. The show is a comedic look at the making of “Jaws” co-written by Ian Shaw, son of Robert Shaw (Quint in the film). This summer, Hanney is bringing the play to the Performing Arts Center amid the film’s 50th anniversary celebrations, which he says is why he got involved in the first place. Read more

Nantucket challenges offshore wind

Nantucket has filed a lawsuit targeting the offshore wind project SouthCoast Wind. This is the latest in several challenges to the offshore wind industry. Town officials are saying federal regulators did not account for the cumulative impacts of multiple offshore wind developments when approving the project, and that proper mitigation efforts were not pursued. Fuel company on notice

The state attorney general’s office has received a number of complaints over a propane company on the Island. We spoke to at least one Islander frustrated with AmeriGas, and the Steamship, over not getting enough propane over the winter months. Read more

Shoutout to Coach Mincone

Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Safe Boating Class is the first on-Island since the announcement of a state boater safety act which requires someone operating a powerboat or personal watercraft to have taken a boating safety course. The class is for all boaters, beginners to experts, covering boating law, safety equipment, navigation and boating emergencies.
