New round of layoffs at MGB

Mass General Brigham has begun its second round of layoffs across its hospital network, but it still remains to be seen how the cuts will impact Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Vineyard hospital officials are being tight-lipped on any potential info about staffing cuts. The layoffs are a part of MGB’s preparations against a forecasted $250 million budget shortfall and to restructure its organization. Read more


Tariffs could spike insurance costs

In our ongoing reporting on the local homeowners insurance market, we hear from agents and officials that the trade tariffs targeting lumber in Canada could make insurance premiums jump even more, although likely not in the immediate future. Read more


NPR station names new headquarters

CAI radio is set to move to the Cape Symphony’s Falmouth Campus, after plans to sell the station’s current, Woods Hole location first broke in October. The new spot is four miles away, and includes gathering and parking space for public events. Read more


Island all-stars

With the spring season on the horizon, 35 student athletes from Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School are being honored by the Cape and Island league as winter all-stars. Read more

Vineyard high schoolers Emily MacMillan and Sawyer Schaefer are building a "tiny house" for shop class, learning firsthand about home systems and project management. The student crew says much of the project has been possible thanks to donations, and that their goal is to be done by the end of the school year. Read more
