When lightning strikes

An offshore wind turbine owned by Vineyard Wind was recently struck by lightning. This turbine was the same one that fractured its blade with debris falling into the ocean in July. The company is assessing the damage. There was also a report of a possible fire caused by the lightning strike, although this remains unconfirmed. Read more


Barmakian not seeking re-election

Gail Barmakian is leaving her position on Oak Bluffs' select board after 15 years. She's choosing to focus on her role in the town's wastewater commission, as work on the town's comprehensive wastewater managment plan is ongoing. It's also not entirely her choice, as a town bylaw forbids a select board member from holding another elected position.

Oscars watch: 'I'm Still Here'
