Scientists push back

As we reported last Friday, hundreds of scientists rallied in Woods Hole against DOGE and federal spending cuts that have left many, especially young scientists, nervous, scrambling and out of work. Today, we revisit the story after speaking with a number of researchers impacted, including one father of two who is suddenly out of a very promising job. We are also announcing that with the help of a generous grant from an Island couple, we're launching a new initiative aimed at mentoring the next generation of Island journalists. 'Have you no decency?'

The Island’s Congressional representative, Bill Keating, is not known for making big splashes. Now he's making national news for standing up to the chair of a Congressional committee yesterday. The chair, a Texas Rep., deliberately misgendered a transgender member of Congress, yielding a tense back and forth. Watch the exchange on our YouTube page.
