Showing up for immigrants

Dozens of Islanders came out to Five Corners on Saturday in near-freezing temperatures to show support for for immigrants and racial justice. Dead turkeys being tested for bird flu

Wildlife officials are testing some 20 turkeys for bird flu after they were found dead in Edgartown over the weekend. Officials say the birds' cause of death is not yet known, and that infection or toxicity could also be the reason. No bird flu cases among wild birds or poultry have been confirmed on-Island so far, officials say, but they advise caution around dead or diseased birds as well as precautions for poultry. Read more

Another bank robbery suspect to serve four months

The last of the suspects in the 2022 Rockland Trust Bank Robbery has been sentenced to prison. Tevin Anthony Porter of Connecticut will serve four months before being released on parole. "Ringleader" Miquel Antonio Jones was sentenced to ten years in December, and "lookout man" Romane Andre Clayton was sentenced to four years in January. Read more


Hockey homecoming

The high school's state hockey champs of 2000 were honored on Saturday on the 25th anniversary of their win at TD Garden. They were doubly honored that afternoon when the Vineyard team beat Nantucket 4–1, and got the hat trick at a postgame get-together at the Wharf Pub. Read more

Alex's Place at the YMCA offers Vineyard Youth a space to congregate, play games, get food, and more. Some students stop by after school for the recording studio, some for the stage, and some for the gym. The Times caught up with teens and organizers to hear what makes Alex's Place special.
