It takes a Legion

Ben Ferry recently moved from West Tisbury to McCormick, South Carolina, and has seen firsthand the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. He has also seen price gouging for supplies and people fighting over water. This weekend, Ferry and other Islanders pooled non-perishables and other supplies, and help from the Island is expected to arrive in South Carolina this weekend. Vineyarders rallied around the African American Heritage Trail in spring after a plaque commemorating an enslaved woman was reported stolen. Not only has the plaque for Rebecca Amos been replaced, but on Sunday, the trail unveiled a statue of her. Read more


Football falls to undefeated Carver

The Vineyard high school football team started the season strong, but ran into the train that is the Carver Crusaders on Friday. They put up a good fight, taking an early lead until the end of the first half, but Carver’s defense proved overwhelming. Read more


M.V. Shipyard project approved

A controversial proposal to build a nautical workshop at Holmes Hole Road in Oak Bluffs got the green light from the Martha’s Vineyard Commission. Although there were concerns about the environmental effects the area might sustain from the project, the potential economic benefits swayed the vote in favor of the shipyard. Read more
