No suspects Oak Bluffs Police say after an investigation of who might have put shell casings in the tote bag owned by health agent Meegan Lancaster, they have no leads and have closed their investigation. Lancaster resigned from her job with the town saying she feared for her life. She has been at the center of the town’s ongoing discussions about the harmful effects of PFAS and was integral in regulations concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, both of which have resulted in social media criticisms. Meanwhile, Oak Bluffs has picked a firm to lead its search for the next police chief. Here is that update.
High expectations The Martha’s Vineyard Commission met on St. Patrick’s Day night, but it was cannabis and not a pint on the minds of commissioners. Along with approving the written decision for Island Grown Initiative, commissioners also discussed a second marijuana dispensary proposed for Tisbury. Reporter Abigail Rosen has this story.
Big boost We talk about the need for affordable housing on the Island all the time, and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) is getting a big infusion of funds for that purpose. In a federal spending bill approved this week, the tribe received $2.6 million for housing and to tie into a wastewater treatment plant. Editor George Brennan has this story.

Hot Topic Letter Doreen Kinsman wrote to say Tisbury should rethink its snow shoveling bylaw. "At almost 91 years of age, with cardiac issues, and aware that one-third of our town taxpayers are elderly, obviously such a request may not be possible to fulfill. If one’s frontage is a mere 50 feet, who could one hire for such a small task? Most teenagers of today would refuse to avail themselves to do so, or even consider payment worth their while."

Adoptable dogs all day long. Noon to 4 pm. Great Italian Cinema: "The Leopard" is playing at the Edgartown library. 1 pm. And it’s Movie Night at the Red House for the recovery community. They’re screening "Licorice Pizza" and having some dandy snacks. 6 pm. We Dance is at PathwaysARTS at the Chilmark Tavern. Go get your groove on. And it’s free. 7 to 10 pm. –C.B.

After growing up watching her mother battle with boxes of hair dye, Hannan came to the realization that embracing her natural hair color meant embracing her age and loving her appearance, despite her gray streaks.
