Busted
Tisbury Police Det. Charles Duquette recently led a nighttime heroin bust
at the Steamship Authority’s Vineyard Haven terminal. Prior to the arrest, Duquette, members of the Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force, and two uniformed Tisbury police officers executed a search warrant. Reporter Rich Saltzberg brings us the news.

Miller Time
Jessica Miller is the newly elected member of the West Tisbury select board. She made her debut at a recent board meeting, and was greeted warmly by fellow members. Additionally, Cynthia Mitchell is the new board chair, and Skipper Manter is the new vice chair (it was the first time the board met with all seats filled following the death of longtime board member Kent Healy). Reporter Eunki Seonwoo has this story.

Filling the need The free dental care clinic that has been up and running since April 4, Vineyard Smiles, will wrap up their annual program tomorrow. The clinic, which initially kicked off in 2005, has seen a steady flow of around 16 adult patients a day who need dental assistance in some way, shape, or form. "Following the science in 2020, when there were more hypotheticals than absolutes, is different from following the science in 2022 — when we have 2 years’ worth of data. Congrats to SSA for making a great decision!" Hot Topic Letter Elise Chapdelaine of Norfolk, Va., wrote a letter to the editor thanking Martha’s Vineyard RMV employees who went above and beyond when she was in a tough spot. "I was in quite a bind with an expired license with little time to get it corrected (as an active-duty military member I was ‘home’ on the Island for just a short time and dealing with some other challenges) and not only did they get me set right, they did so graciously and expeditiously."

Taking shape
Folks are lining up for a new exhibit at Featherstone Center for the Arts that looks at art from a different angle. "Joyful Geometrics" takes creative contours and fantastic forms from 75 different artists and brings them together into a coherent presentation that’s a feast for the eyes.
