The proposal to add a synthetic turf field at
Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School is dead — at least for the moment. On Wednesday, the Oak Bluffs planning board deadlocked 2-2 on the decision of whether to issue a special permit for the field, which is located in the Oak Bluffs water protection zone. Because of the tie vote, the permit was not issued. Is this the end of what’s been one of the most controversial issues on the Island? That remains to be seen. Reporter Lucas Thors has this story.
Schools of thought Once again the MVRHS working group got together at the high school library to talk about how to either fund a new high school or rebuild the existing one. The six Island towns are looking for a more equitable solution to funding the building project ahead of finalizing the Vineyard’s application for state funds. Reporter Eunki Seonwoo has this update.
One to go There is one more town meeting to come on Martha’s Vineyard. On Tuesday, Aquinnah voters will be going to town meeting to close out the season of the "purest form of democracy." That’ll be the final town meeting to vote on the housing bank. There are some other topics on the warrant, including whether to spend money on voting machines. Eunki also has this story.

We can’t get back the trees — but no asphalt or concrete has been poured yet. We could pull out the stumps and replant trees and native shrubs, instead installing a reasonable shoulder and enforcing a safe speed limit."
