Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
Today is National Devil’s Food Cake Day. Wonder if we could borrow some of Nicole Jackson’s ice cream out of the office freezer to truly celebrate this day to its fullest. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Slow going on fast food
America might run on Dunkin’, but West Tisbury doesn’t and won’t. During a joint discussion between the select board and town planners on what to do about the future of food trucks in town, several people pointed out that fast food restrictions have to do with keeping out the likes of Dunkin' and McDonald’s. Reporter Eunki Seonwoo has this story.
Funds on the way
The Dukes County Commission discussed $3 million allotted to the county via the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). No decisions have been made on how the funds, which are part of the federal relief package for COVID-19, will be distributed. County officials say they have received three applications under consideration. Reporter Abigail Rosen has the update.

Ferry fiasco
Want to get away? Well, you might be better off at the airport than the SSA. On Thursday morning, the ferry service had two ferries down in their Woods Hole slips, which caused one heck of a backup and left hundreds of commuters and travelers stranded. Editor George Brennan experienced the turmoil and delays and has the story.
MEETINGS

Tomorrow is Friday and we’re happy to report it is a meeting-less Friday.

Quote of the Day
"We should do what we can to move this project forward, and if we can’t get the turf, we should go with grass. It will take two years for the appeal, and that will take another two years for the approval process, and we will keep moving further and further behind."–MVRHS school committee member Skipper Manter advocating for moving ahead with grass fields

Hot Topic Comment
Peter Kretschmann commented on the Tisbury School renovation and addition being $10 million over budget. "No surprise here! Guess we have to sign over our retirement for this boondoggle."

Hot Topic Letter
Tess Bramhall writes that the Land Protection Fund remains a mystery for some, but plays a vital role in preserving land on the Island. "Everyone knows of the Land Bank, but likely the Land Protection Fund is new to most. This fund was created in 2018, and is held by the Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation … Its purpose is to offer monetary assistance to help complete conservation transactions and therefore to help in a modest way to increase the pace of land protection on Martha’s Vineyard."
Today: Look at that great little illustration for Chef Look Cooks. Love it. Anyway, he’s delving into balsamic glazed sweet potatoes tonight and I’m all over it. 5 pm. –Connie Berry

I haven’t gone to this virtual group yet: Western Esoteric Tradition Today, but I do like the sound of it. Informal talks about spiritual disciplines, with a little dose of personal alchemy. 7 pm. –C.B.

Staying in?
A sandwich you won't soon forget can be made using Robin Forte's recipe for Herbed Frittata Panino, shared by Ava Castro. The key is to use eggs, herbs, and bread that are very fresh. After just one bite, you may think you are on a Mediterranean island.
