Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
On this day in 2018, a mass shooting occurred at the Capital Gazette in Maryland. Five employees were killed and two were injured. Today is also National Paul Bunyan Day, one of North America’s most famous folklore heroes. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Vape expectations MVRHS is hoping to deal with the growing problem of vaping among students in a way that will provide some education rather than just punishment. At a meeting
on Monday, the school committee was informed about research being conducted by the high school administration with other school districts to find an approach that will be more effective. Reporter Lucas Thors has this story.
Boat’s here The new harbor patrol boat for the Tisbury harbormaster has arrived. The new boat was paid for with insurance money from the boat that sank in 2019. (You may recall the town’s been using a loaner from the Massachusetts Environmental Police in the interim.) Reporter Rich Saltzberg has this update.
Heroine among us At 23 years old, Jennelle Gadowski already has the resume of someone twice her age — at least when it comes to activism. Gadowski is part of
the Martha’s Vineyard chapter of the NAACP and has been a vocal advocate for Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ+ community on the Island. That’s why it came as no surprise to us that she was among the women who were recognized as a Commonwealth Heroine. Reporter Eunki Seonwoo has this story.
MEETINGS The West Tisbury select board meets at 4:30 pm Wednesday at town hall. Here is the agenda.

I’ve always wanted to make something using herbes de provence. I’m not exactly sure what it is, but it sounds fancy. It’s got to be one of those little bundles you tie up with string and put into a pot of something. Learn more at the Online Spice Club at the Vineyard Haven library. 6 pm.–C.B.
