How many of us learned our Miranda rights from shows like "FBI," "Adam 12," or the "Streets of San Francisco?" Right now some of our younger readers are headed for Google. On this day in 1966, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its decision on Miranda v. Arizona, which
ensured certain rights to those arrested by police, including the right to have an attorney present. Today is National Weed Your Garden Day. Glad this only comes once a year. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Accident or a crime? The Boathouse Club LLC sent an email to its members Friday calling the drowning of a 3-year-old boy an "accident," even after admitting guilt to
"involuntary manslaughter." In court on Friday, the judge was clear that one of the conditions of probation was not to contradict what was admitted in the courtroom. It’s unclear if the emailed statement to members will be considered a violation of that probation. Reporter Rich Saltzberg has the update.

Showing Pride Martha’s Vineyard held its first Pride parade on Saturday in Oak Bluffs. The parade started at the Island Queen ferry and ended at Ocean
Park, where organizers were able to convince Oak Bluffs leaders to fly the Pride flag for a portion of Pride month. Members of the LBGTQ+ community were joined by a wide swath of Islanders and visitors for the festivities. Reporter Abigail Rosen was there and has this story.

Quote of the Day "Now, as we’re graduating and getting ready to leave our sheltered Island lifestyle, it’s time to reach that potential. So, Class of 2022, I ask you again to remember the unexpected. Be unexpected like me, do the unexpected like them, and live the unexpected. I promise you’ll be happier for it." –MVRHS senior Kaleb Hatt in his message to fellow graduates at Sunday’s commencement ceremonyHot Topic CommentKatie Lane responded to comments about the Island’s first Pride parade. "There are countless parts of the Bible that go unobserved and unmentioned by the vast majority, yet a suspiciously high number of people are more than happy to tell us being gay is bad, bad, bad in the name of Jesus. I bet He’s not buying it, and neither am
I."Hot Topic LetterPatricia Carlet wrote on behalf of Tisbury’s Memorial Day Picnic committee. "In 2008 the Tisbury picnic committee issued an open invitation to all Island residents to join with us in honoring this very special occasion … after a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic, over 150 members of our Island community joined the committee on a beautiful sunny day for a grand, old-fashioned picnic."

An Island anthem What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the Vineyard? Maybe it’s strolling through Oak Bluffs with ice cream in hand, or showing your skills at Spike Ball out on the sand. For local musician Dave Willis, the scenes he envisions as the quintessence of the Island often end up inspiring him to write music. The pastel palette of colors layered across a Chappaquonsett sunrise, or the stretch of honking traffic along Beach Road: both are scenes that play into Willis’ new creation.
Read reporter Lucas Thors’ story on the album and the musician here.
