Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
Has the gusty weather wrinkled travel plans? Coincidentally, today is apparently Big Wind Day, which commemorates the highest natural wind gust measured on Earth — 231 mph recorded by Mount Washington Observatory on April 12, 1934. Hopefully the weather will be smoother this weekend. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Today's Minute is sponsored by: Island Housing Trust

With IHT's help, a year-round homeowner downsized and stayed on the Island, and two Vineyard families purchased year-round affordable homes. Watch to see how we did it! You can help build more urgently needed affordable housing on Martha's Vineyard. Click here to donate now.
Oak Bluffs pier jump
An Oak Bluffs man is being charged with a slew of charges after ramming his car into a police cruiser, fleeing the scene, and then driving off of the Oak Bluffs Steamship Authority pier. He got out of the water with non life-threatening injuries. In court this morning, Justin Leblanc was arraigned and held on a $5,000 bail, where he pleaded not guilty. Read the story here.
Yes for grass
West Tisbury and Edgartown voters went to the polls on Thursday, and while there weren’t any shakeups among town leadership, there were some questions to be answered. Namely, ballot questions. These included a preference over athletic field surfaces and funding expensive projects. Read more here.

New leader
Emma Green-Beach was reelected to Oak Bluffs' select board on Thursday, and will be joined by first-timer K. Mark Leonard. In Edgartown, Arthur J. Smadbeck was reelected to the select board, and Jeffrey "Skipper" Manter secured reelection to the select board in West Tisbury. Green-Beach and Leonard had been out campaigning since Thursday morning, and said they are honored by voters' support. Read more here.

Staying in?
Here's a creamy one-dish wonder that can be readily adapted depending on what you have on hand, including plant-based ingredients: Beef Stroganoff over Egg Noodles, a recipe shared by John Robert Hill. In the Times' kitchen, maybe we'll try tossing our fridge leftovers into a skillet and call it Cheap Stroke-of-Luck over Kit Caboodles.

Does your family have a recipe to share with the community? Send it to us, along with a photo of the dish and a brief backstory if you have one, to recipes@mvtimes.com.
