At the polls
Polls are open for another few hours in Oak Bluffs, West Tisbury, and in Edgartown. Oak Bluffs voters are voting for two members for their select board as well as on funding requests; it’s turf and library HVAC in West Tisbury; and whether to buy a property for municipal housing in Edgartown. Find out where and what to vote for here.
Steamship woes
The Steamship Authority has had some issues lately that caused cancellations, and they occurred today for the ferries Woods Hole and Martha’s Vineyard. These problems included striking a buoy and needing repairs to the stern door; also, a truck stalled on a freight deck. Read more here.

Lifting the bar
Four powerlifters from Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School turned some heads at a big tournament this past weekend. At the 2024 USA Powerlifting High School Nationals in Louisiana, sophomore Syius Rivera squatted, benched, and then deadlifted about 1,294 pounds, winning his weight class outright. Read our coverage here.

Spectacular 35-acre Boldwater Association waterfront estate on Edgartown Great Pond with breathtaking views over 1,000 ft. wide, including a low, brushy pond in the front terrain, the 3/4-mile wide Lyles Bay, dreamy Swan Neck Point, the 1 1/2-mile wide main pond, and a barrier beach to the ocean beyond. The handful of well-pruned trees on the property enhance the water views. The sophisticated and charming quality house was built by Andrew Flake, arguably the finest Vineyard builder over the last 40 years. Mark Hutker created an innovative design with an arc-shape nautical theme, so every room faces the water. The 3 second-floor bedrooms enjoy large terraces, and the primary bedroom on the first floor opens to a nice deck and a quiet garden sanctuary. The handmade, luxury, kitchen cabinetry and extensive woodworking were done by Smallbone, a British Company noted for time-honored design and craftsmanship. Adding to this estate, reflecting decades of careful planning and development, is a lovely private pool and pool house, 4-room guest suite over the garage with a large deck, two stone-wall-enclosed specimen fruit tree meadows, a large field circled by a grand stone wall, an idyllic lily pond, and two miles of private trails. Last but not least, are 14+ abutting sub-dividable acres into potentially 3-4 lots. Keep boats and small craft on your mooring at the water's edge for a short trip to the 3,000-ft. Boldwater private beach. Boldwater is 30 homesites on 450 acres with 150 acres of conservation, and it abuts approximately 1,500 acres of conservation lands and a few large estates. A most remarkable rural area convenient to town and the airport.

Quote of the Day
"Last summer we realized we could really succeed at it, and it just snowballed from there. It creates a really special bond, meeting up and pushing each other to our limits. It’s something everyone should experience."
— MVRHS junior Josh Salop on the high school powerlifting team

Hot Topic Comment
"I just want my peaceful neighborhood back!"
— Gayle Stiller on the Oak Bluffs voter decision to reject industrial overlays

Hot Topic Letter
"VCS applauds the efforts of town boards, the M.V. Commission, and concerned citizens who continue to do the heavy lifting of planning for a more sustainable future. Now it’s the voters’ turn […] It’s a big ask, but we know Vineyard voters are up for it. There’s too much at stake not to be."
— Jeremy Houser of the Vineyard Conservation Society, encouraging voter engagement as town meetings begin
