Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
It’s National Fettuccine Alfredo Day. It’s also National Periodic Table Day. That begs the question: What happened to pocket protectors? The Beatles landed in NYC on this date in 1964, and two days later they were on "The Ed Sullivan Show." The teenage screams were heard around the world. And fyi, President Biden gives his State of the
Union address tonight at 9 pm.If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.
Good news, sports fans The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School committee decided to extend its temporary policy of not charging fees for sports events for the rest of the regular winter season. Whether that will be a permanent change will be decided after further discussion. The committee and school administrators will also need to decide whether to amend the admissions policy for performing arts events. Reporter Eunki Seonwoo has this update.

The SSA says the improvement will be what people expect from a website in 2023. Abigail Rosen has this update.

Quote of the Day "It’s going to look like a website that was built this year and not 10 years ago." – Sean Driscoll says of the Steamship Authority’s new website set to land this spring
Hot Topic Letter Chick Stapleton wrote to us about proposed nip bans in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs: "In 2019, we used the trash we collected from the Earth Day cleanup to build a 20 ft. Great White Shark, and for the past three years Nipsy has been at over a dozen events. We chose her name to draw attention to the largest source of trash, and made her large teeth entirely out of nips."

Staying in?
If you'd like to make something with a tasty twist to the usual fare, make some Bacon-wrapped Sweet Potato Wedges, an idea shared by Nicole Jackson. They happen to look like little footballs, so they are a great option for a Super Bowl snack, but it
might get quite messy if you try throwing one in a pass.

Olympic
dreams For as long as Landon Cormie can remember, his life has revolved around his love for sailing. Growing up on the Island, he always had a passion for boating, fishing, surfing, and sailing — pretty much anything having to do with being out on the water. Cormie’s first internationally competitive race was when he was 8 and he competed in the O’pen BIC Worlds in Miami. Today, Landon is 19, and he told writer Geoff Currier that he’s probably been to 25 or 26 countries at this point in his life, not to mention regular trips to Miami to compete with sailors in the U.S. Sailing Center. Read
Currier’s story about Cormie and his goal of competing in the 2028 Olympics.
