Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
Today is National Pet Care For All Day, which advocates for affordable pet care with good quality. The Vineyard knows we have some good vets, but the number of on-Island pets makes it difficult to care for all of them. By the way, there’s still time to cast your ballot at the polls in Chilmark at the annual town election. If your friend sent you this, sign up for yourself here.

Today's Minute is sponsored by: MV Film Society

At home you are surrounded by life’s distractions, inclined to pick up the phone or do the dishes. Escape reality for a few hours with a screening at The Film Center.
Enjoy cinema snacks and relax in one of our reclining chairs in front of the big screen.
Simply sit and immerse yourself. You’ve earned it.

Compromise in Chilmark
Chilmark voters have reached a middle ground regarding the management of town-owned tennis courts. The Chilmark Town Affairs Council will continue to manage the courts and tennis programs in the summer, but a new committee will be formed to review the council’s work. We also catch up with a tennis instructor who some say is at the center of the dispute. Read more here.
Netflix wants extras
Extras, extras, read all about it! An open call will be happening in Oak Bluffs for an upcoming Netflix show "Forever," an adaptation of Judy Blume’s 1975 novel. The production company is looking to shoot across the Island. If you want to see your shot at a being on TV, read more here.

A piece of the seasonal pie
The Edgartown select board updated its rules for how long seasonal restaurants can stay open into the winter. This came after a concerned year-round restaurant said they lost business when seasonal liquor licenses were extended last year. Also, the Chappy Ferry will be closed to vehicles for a weekend in May for the installation of a new ramp. Find out when that will take place here.

Quote of the Day
"It’s very easy to get overwhelmed by climate change [...] We wanted to do things we felt we could do to make a difference, working on a local level."
Organizer and co-founder of Tree Stewards Peter Meleney said on behalf of their tree-planting Earth Day celebration.

Hot Topic Comment
"...It’s more than tennis. It’s about democracy and fairness and a group of community members, both year round and seasonal, who have valuable input and are not being heard."
Alexis Garcia on the tennis debate in Chilmark.

Hot Topic Letter
"Simply put, people want to leave, and many already have — and when many have already left, we are not getting the full picture of what voters really want for their towns."
—Dean Rosenthal on a need to address important issues earlier during town meetings.
