Short-term shakeup? A land court case regarding Nantucket short-term rentals could have ripple effects onto Martha’s Vineyard, and Islanders on both sides of the sea are watching to see how things play out. Vineyard realtors and officials say there’s uncertainty as to what extent short-term rentals would be impacted here. Read more here.
A relentless Chilmarker The late Riggs Parker, a long-time resident of Chilmark, served as a select board member and member of the Steamship Authority board. A former editor at The Times writes a tribute to him, saying that the elected official was relentless in his pursuits while also an exemplary student. Read that tribute here.
Sunrise wind The federal government recently announced the approval of Sunrise Wind, a 900-megawatt wind farm planned for waters close to the Vineyard. It would be the largest in Vineyard waters so far approved, although another wind project in the working stages would be substantially larger. Read that story here.

Quote of the Day "Even though the questions are given to you [in class], you use your own knowledge to answer them [...] It’s opened up my mind about how we think, and the things we learn in IB are things I can apply to a lot of aspects in my life." — Senior Grace Robinson on her experience as a student in the Charter School’s IB
program
Hot Topic Comment "Our Brazilian neighbors are an asset, not a liability. Imagine if we taught Portuguese in our schools from kindergarten onward. The kids
could practice this language every single day, and graduate high school truly bilingual. It would be a leg-up for the college bound and a big plus for those who will run the businesses and be the skilled tradespeople of the future. We are wasting a great opportunity." — Geraldine Brooks on a letter discussing cultural relations between Brazilian and American communities in Island schools
Hot Topic Letter "I attended the standing-room-only NAACP panel on microaggressions held at the Hebrew Center on Sunday, March 17. The panel and moderator were excellent, and the audience was well-engaged." — Jocelyn Coleman Walton writes to us about a recent panel discussion on microaggressions
Today:Learn about remarkable Island women from the M.V. Museum’s oral history curator Linsey Lee. She’ll share stories and films about them from their archives at Vineyard Women. They are the real superheroes. 5:30 pm. –Connie Berry
The Film Center invites us to a free screening of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," with a presentation by neurologist Dr. Andrew E. Budson. Erasing painful memories is food for thought. I like to coddle mine, therefore staying awake all night. 7:30 pm. –C.B.
Tomorrow:There’s an Easter Egg Hunt at the West Tisbury Fire Station next to the baseball field. You better get there on time. These things lasted about two minutes in my backyard. Bring some bandaids. My brother used to shove me and every year I’d get a bloody knee. Maybe I should watch that film tonight. 11 am.

Volleyball on the bench When you think of sitting and sports, you think of "getting benched." But for seniors at the Tisbury Council on Aging, sitting means you're in the game. With a beach ball, a net, and a couple dozen chairs, "chair volleyball" serves as an inclusive way for seniors to stay active. Read more about it here.
