Got a minute?
Here’s what’s happening on Martha’s Vineyard today.
Let’s say Happy Birthday to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky today. We can thank the Russian composer for “Swan Lake” and “The Nutcracker.” It’s also National Paste Up Day, and we honor graphic designers everywhere for that one — especially Nicole Jackson, Dave Plath, and Kristófer Rabasca! 'My Dead Dad'
Christopher Gray, an architecture historian and Vineyard Haven summer resident, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 66 in 2017. But last summer, he and his daughter, Olivia Gray Konrath, took the ferry over, kayaked on Lake Tashmoo, and even took a biplane tour of the Island. This is thanks to Mr. Gray's extraordinary final wish, documented in the film "My Dead Dad." The film, to be screened on the Vineyard this summer, shows Gray Konrath's road trip with her father's skeleton. Read more and see more here.
Summer shortage?
The Cape and Islands are getting ready for another busy summer season, but the Steamship Authority is preparing for possible staffing shortages. In particular, the ferry service is concerned about having enough deck officers to run the ships. Read more here.

Props to the HSV
The High School View — what our newsroom calls the HSV for short — got some much-deserved recognition from a New England high school journalism conference, if we can say that. The paper received two top awards, and a couple students also received some individual recognition. Read that story here.
